CAP Pilot and Aircrew Guide
CAP Pilot
- Prerequisites
- FAA Documentation – enter in eServices My Operations Qualifications
- Private, Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single Engine Rating
- Instructor certificates with expiration date is held
- Medical Certificate – class and date of exam or date of expiration for special issuance
- Flight Review – date of review or date of FAA Wings and phase
- Flight experience – hours as PIC
- Enter on Prerequisites page – required for appointments and qualifications
- Current – Meets 14 CFR 61.57 (recent flight experience) for designated operation

- Radio Communications – self study
- CAPR 100-1 and 100-3 – Access from capmembers.com then scroll to the regulations
- Radio Operator Permit
- CAP From 5 exam
- Aircraft Questionnaire
- Access from capmembers.com then scroll to CAPF 5 and then choose Airplane Questionnaire
- CAPF 5 Check Ride
- Complete your specific data on the form and take with you to the check ride
- Access from capmembers.com left hand menu under ” CAP Pubs and Forms”, then select “Forms”, scroll to CAPF 5
- Review the information on the Stan/Eval page for the conduct of the check ride
- Schedule your check ride with a CAP check pilot qualified in the aircraft model you will be flying
- Upon completion the check pilot will sign the form and check off any additional endorsements
- Enter the check ride data in My Ops Quals on the “Airplane” page
- Data must be validated by your units Operations Officer, Group Commander or Deputy
- CAP Pilot status must be approved
Transport Mission Pilot
- Prerequisites
- CAP VFR Pilot at least 18 years of age
- 100 Hours PIC and 50 hours cross country
- General Emergency Services (GES) qualification
- Study CAPR 60-3 and 62-1 and any CAP/CC Letters posted
- CAP Test 116 – CAP Online Courses and Exams on left side of eServices main page
- Courses
- NIMS courses IS-100.b and IS-700.a – completion certificate will be required
- Knowledge items
- CAPR 60-1, 60-3, 62-1, 173-3
- Complete Specialty Qualification Training Record (SQTR) in eServices
- My Operations Qualifications, Entry/View Worksheet under Emergency Services, SQTR’s
- Data requires validation and TMP qualification requires approval
Cadet Orientation Pilot
- Orientation pilots must be at least 21 years of age or hold a CFI certificate
- For gliders pilots must have at least 100 hours PIC or hold a CFIG certificate
- CAP cadet orientation pilot – requires 200 hours PIC
- Print for reference and review CAPP 52-7 cadet orientation flight syllabus
- Online exam data is recorded automatically – “demonstration to check pilot” must be entered and validated
- AFROTC cadet orientation pilot – requires 300 hours PIC
- Online exam data is recorded automatically, “demonstration to check pilot” entry must be validated
- These are appointments requiring approval by the Wing/Region CC or designee
Mission Scanner
- Prerequisites
- General Emergency Services (GES) qualification
- At least 18 years of age
- Print Specialty Qualification Training Record (SQTR)
- My Operations Qualifications, Print Blank Worksheets under Emergency Services, SQTR
- Completed tasks can be entered into the SQTR (Entry/View Worksheet) or recorded on paper and completed paper form uploaded
- View/Upload documents link is on the Entry/View Worksheet page under your name
- Task Guides
- Task Guides are issued for: Aircrew and Flight Line, Ground and Urban DF Team, and Mission Base Staff

- Courses
- NIMS courses IS-100.b and IS-700.a – completion certificate will be required
- Ground Handling Video – Video and quiz on CAP Aircraft Ground Handling Procedures
- Access from eServices left hand menu under “CAP Multimedia” “Video Courses”
- CAPT 117 Continuing Education part 2
- Approval required for
- Meeting prerequisites
- Completion of Familiarization and Preparatory Training (approved to participate in missions as trainee)
- CAPF101 with trainee status issued
- Completion of advanced training
- Wing/Region Commander or designee must approve final qualification
Mission Observer
- Prerequisites
- Mission Scanner
- At least 18 years of age
- The balance of Mission Observer follows the same process as Mission Scanner with additional tasks to be accomplished
SAR/DR Mission Pilot
- Prerequisites
- CAP VFR Pilot at least 18 years of age
- Mission Scanner
- Transport Mission Pilot
- 175 hours PIC to begin training
- 200 hours PIC to be qualified
- Courses
- NIMS courses IS-200.b – completion certificate will be required
- IS-100 and 700 should already be completed by now
- CAPT 117 Continuing Education part 2
- Print Specialty Qualification Training Record (SQTR)
- My Operations Qualifications, Print Blank Worksheets under Emergency Services, SQTR
- Completed tasks can be entered into the SQTR (Entry/View Worksheet) or recorded on paper and completed paper form uploaded

- Mission pilot check ride
- CAPF 91
- Complete your specific data on the form and take with you to the check ride
- Access from capmembers.com then scroll to CAPF 5
- Review the information on the Stan/Eval page for the conduct of the check ride
- Schedule your check ride with a CAP mission check pilot qualified in the aircraft model you will be flying

CAP Instructor Pilot
- Qualified CAP VFR Pilot in aircraft model to be flown
- Qualified in accordance with FAA regulations to instruct in aircraft to be flown
- Satisfactorily complete an instructor pilot endorsement on a CAPF 5 check ride within the prior twelve months
- Be appointed by the Wing/Region Commander or designee
- eServices is specific to powered aircraft and gliders
CAP Check Pilot
- Qualified as a CAP Instructor Pilot in the CAP aircraft to be flown – may be waived per CAPF 60-1
- Satisfactorily complete the National Check Pilot Standardization Course
- Satisfactorily complete a check pilot endorsement on a CAPF 5 check ride given by a Check Pilot Examiner within the prior twelve months
- Be appointed by the Wing/Region Commander or designee
CAP Tow Pilot
- CAP VFR Pilot at least 21 years of age
- Qualified in accordance with 14 CFR 61.69 to tow gliders
- 500 hours PIC and 250 hours in single engine land
- Satisfactorily complete the CAP/SSAF Tow Pilot Course
- Complete at least 10 tows within the prior 12 months
- For initial qualification or re-currency, pilots may accomplish these tows in CAP aircraft under the instruction of another CAP Tow Pilot
- Be appointed by the Wing/Region Commander or designee
CAP Mission Check Pilot
- Qualified as a CAP SAR/DR Mission Pilot
- Participated in at least 25 sorties as a SAR/DR Mission Pilot
- Complete a CAPF 91 mission check pilot ride given by a CAP Mission Check Pilot Examiner
- Satisfactorily complete the National Check Pilot Standardization Course
- Be appointed by the Wing/Region Commander or designee
CAP Check Pilot Examiner
- Qualified as a CAP Check Pilot
- Be appointed by the Wing/Region Commander or designee
- Examiners are appointed for: CAP Check Pilot, CAP Check Pilot G1000, CAP Check Pilot Glider, CAP Mission Check Pilot
